For many years, LEADERship Alumni Boards have talked about becoming a non-profit organization to enhance the legitimacy of our youth oriented programs and fund raising for them. It was agreed that we needed to establish a foundation for these purposes. Board members were adamant about broadening our focus beyond our scholarship and Martin Youth Leadership (MYL) program as a result of a previous scholarship recipient's plea for financial support for her studies abroad.
Most importantly, the foundation would maximize our potential to make our Youth Leadership program the leader from which others can copy. As well, we can explore expanding the current scholarship program and providing more opportunities for the graduates of MYL to achieve the goals of attending and paying for a higher education. It will also allow us to seek other opportunities to benefit the youth of Martin County.
The LEADERship Martin County Alumni Foundation For Youth, Inc. has been formally incorporated and registered with the State of Florida as a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit corporation for MYL, our scholarship fund, and other youth oriented programs. At this time, we are filing an IRS application for 501(c)(3) status. This foundation will provide the charitable basis for our fund raising efforts in support of our scholarship program, MYL, and future endeavors.
As the Foundation is in its infancy and its future is developing, we'd like to invite you to come back and view this page from time to time so you'll be able to learn where we're going.
The Board of Directors of LEADERship Martin County Alumni, Inc. would like to thank Tom Vokoun, Len Rutland, Joanne Towner, Craig Robinson and, most especially, Greg Nuttall for donating their time and energy to making this happen. |
